I just recieved an 88 spl from my grandfather. Its been sitting for 4ish years, but it started right up. It idles fine and all, but since its been sitting, I want to do the impeller. Its nothing like my 1978 115 where you just unscrew the shift rod screw to drop it down.

It looks like some sort of pin that you push out, but I can't actually see the other side of it really. I'm new to these newer models, so im not exactly sure how it goes to get that screw/pin out.

So, do i have to remove the carbs to get to it, or does it just push out? I noticed there seems to be some sort of access port on the starboard side.

The only numbers i could find were 62966322
if that helps with the model number or year that'd be great.

thanks

Re: help with an 88 spl

There is a spring clip that pulls out, allowing the whole bellcrank to slide a bit, releasing the shift rod. Fairly simple once you do it the first time - took me a bit to figure it out, though...

Re: help with an 88 spl

Can you see where the shift rod which comes up from the lowerer unit connects onto the shift lever shaft? This is under the bottom carb. If you then follow that shaft towards you, you will see on the end a spring clip. This is right below the throttle linkage and just to the left. You pull that pin out then you can push the shift lever shaft away from you which will allow you to slide the shift rod off the pin that holds it in place.

I hope this helps
