So I just got this old Renken boat model 795 w/a Chrysler 115 outboard model 1156R3E serial 1024. I googled the model number so that I could get the year and specs on the motor but it didn't reveal any charts with a 1156R3E model. It seems that it doesn't exist, Anyone know why I can't find it? It's my first boat and I would like to change the gear oil but need to know what to get. It's a 4 cylinder and has a magneto. If anyone could help me figure this out and where to find general maintenance info I'd appreciate it. Thanks

There are no real specs on lower unit oil. Of course, Chrysler specified their own brand.

You can use ANY brand marine lower unit oil in the 85-105 range. In fact, if the lower unit does not leak, you can use automotive rear-end oil, again, 85-105. These are extreme pressure oils, marked EP OR Hypoid in the automotive application. marine grade has a bit more anti-corrosion additives but is basically the same stock.

I don't know of any 4 cylinder Chrysler with a magneto. They cam with distributor Motorola ignition, or Prestolite CD ignition (no distributor), And possibly the dreaded Magna-Power II CD ignition.

Thank you for the response, I will take a picture of the motor and post it later to see if you or someone can tell me what I have. There is a label that identifies a wire that goes to the magneto so I just assumed that it had one. Still would like to find a maintenance book or user manual for the motor. Not sure how to do that when I can't find the motor when I search for the model and serial number. Thanks again.

Did you ever find more information about the boat/motor? I'm in the same "boat" right now and I'm trying to figure it all out. Serial number 1037 over here.
