Hi, I'm slowly making progress getting the engine ready for break in. I have a wiring issue/ question. The boat, a 1998 four winns horizon 180 originally had a v6 and someone swapped in a mercruiser vi 5.7. It wasnt running when I got it. It's almost ready for break in and I need to make sure the distributor is going to work. Not sure if the distributor is from the v6 or a vi distributor. There are 2 electrical connectors. The one on the left has 2 pins and the right has 4. The left 2 wires, one comes from the harness and the other to the coil. The 4 wire plug has nothing plugging into it. I bought the boat not running but the engine appeared to have been running but I want to make sure this will work correctly. Isnt the 4 wire connector for the distributor module? What do I need to do?

you are showing only a part of a distributor, not a whole distributor

however V6 distributors will not work in a V8

That looks like an automotive distributor.

DO NOT PUT AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRICAL AND FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS IN A BOAT.

Thanks for the replies, I searched the internet for the part # on the distributor and found it is a cheap Amazon distributor for autos. So looks like I'm on the hunt for an appropriate marine distributor. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
