I bought a Four winns during the winter that hadn't been winterized and needed a new block. Got the engine all fixed up during Christmas and just now tried starting it (waiting for warm weather and no more freezes!). It runs great, however I have a few electrical problems and wondering if anyone else has had something like this:
-Fuel gauge doesn't work and will peg out when nav lights are turned on
-blower doesn't work
-bilge doesn't work
-fresh water doesn't work
-volt meter on gauge doesn't work
-gauge backlights
what does work:
cockpit lights
nav/anchor lights
radio
tach
oil press
temp
I have checked fuses and also double checked the grounds on the back of the engine. I noticed when I flip the blower switch my cockpit lights come on but very dim. when I flip the cockpit lights on they get brighter
Tonight I removed the blower completely and tested for 12v at the plug. I am getting a consistent 13.5v there. I then jumped the blower itself directly to a battery and it runs fine. When I plug in the blower it turns about one time then dies and the cockpit lights come on dim. Is this an open circuit or a bad ground somewhere? Anyone lead me to the direction to start? I have checked the fuse block and everything looks ok there and getting voltage. Seems like I have a ground or circuit somewhere thats not letting everything else work. A friend said it could be the fuse block itself? Also I will count tomorrow but it seems like there are a lot of leads going to the back of the nav light switch. I have a wiring diagram and it doesn't show as many wires as I saw. (I have a funship diagram but not sure its year specific to mine).
thanks for any help before I pull my hair out chasing this problem!
