Greetings New to this board Just picked up a boat that included a 7.5 Elgin. Well it ran good at inspection but I didn't run it long enough. It runs good for about 10 mins then seize. wait a while and it runs again. I believe not circulating water. May need water pump. My question is where can I get a service manual and parts for this motor
Thanks

Howdy, Erbby. Welcome to the board.

If you can find the model #, take it to a Sears parts depot. They can help you out.

Those old Elgins often had a very good sliding vane water pump. . . worked very well.

Good luck.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: Help with Elgin 7.5

Hi, I have an old(late50's-early 60's)Elgin 7.5. I tried to use it earlier this year on my jon boat, but it would run for a few minutes, then die. I thoroughly cleaned the carb., and replaced the spark plugs. It ran a little better, then started to have the same problems. Then one day, it died and never started up again. I tried to find parts for it, and Sears told me they didn't deal with those anymore. I found that it was very difficult to get any kind of parts for it. You might want to look on ebay or a place that deals with NOS(new old stock).

Thanks for the responses
I feel it's an overheating thing because when it stops running I cannot pull the starter cord. Then after a cooling period I can and you can't touch the motor to hot
thanks again
