help with engine ID BE5DRLESR

Hi,

I have recently bought a (what I'm told is) a 6hp 2stroke evinrude. I have checked the model number and it is: BE5DRLESR. From what I can gather on the net this is a 1990 5hp engine however I am unable to find parts for this model on any of the sites that have parts diagrams. It seems that 1990 models were 4hp or 6hp but not 5hp!

The cover says it's a 6hp (I guess that means nothing) and also the rope start reel says 6hp on it.

I am looking for a manual for this engine and also a carb rebuild kit (if it helps the number on the side of the carb is MX335211).

The ?DR? part of the model number states that it is a ?derated? engine. Not quite sure what that means, is it a 6hp motor modified to 5hp?

it is a 1990 5hp, built in Belgium Plant.

manual, http://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1990&ID=71963 R is a factory run indicator.

i think you may have to consult with a dealer on the carb kit, as i cannot find anything listed.

thanks for that, I have ordered a manual now so that should help alot.

does anyone know what they mean by a derated engine. the DR in the model number I beleive means it is a derated rope start engine?

Looking at the parts diagrams of 1990 6hp engines my engine looks very similar. The carb looks exactly the same.

There are a few part numbers stamped on the engine as follows:

thermostat housing cover - 333718
cylinder head - 333717
cover - 327259

all these part number apertain to the 1990 6hp

now I'm really confused!

That looks like it, part number 10 is black plastic.

those motors used a lot of the same parts. i would go with the 6 hp parts.

Hi there,

apologies, I do not mean to hi-jack your thread but I was wondering if you could post some pictures of the engine in your evinrude? I have recently acquired the same outboard, in need of some tlc to get it running again. Specifically the previous owner has attempted (unsuccessfully) to replace the tiller arm and throttle with another similar unit. However even though it fits, the throttle linkage is incorrect/missing. Thus far I've been unable to find any good pictures or a decent exploded diagram of this area (at all!). I have been having the same problems as yourself identifying parts and exactly what the outboard is!

My intention is to fabricate a new linkage the best I can, however having good pictures of the correct one would help no end!
