I am still working on my old thunderbird seminole cathedral hull boat. I am thinking about purchsing another OB hull for my 175 HP mercury engine. The engine is borderline for the tbird (rated HP) so I may have another engine available for it. I would like to find a 18 - 22' cuddy cabin preferably with self bailing deck for the 175. My 175 has a long shaft (20"), the longest available in 1978. I will be using the boat on inland lakes, so waves are not a big concern. The problem I am having is finding hulls with 20" transoms. Were the transoms lower back in the 70's? What boats should I be looking for that would have 20" transoms? Any advice will be appreciated.

Motors have been getting longer shafts and hulls have been as well since the 70's. You will need to either stick with older hulls(70's, 80's) or cut the transom down, or use a jackplate to make the motor work on 25" hulls.

Thanks Chris1956, I will continue looking for a good 20" hull. Good ones are hard to find.
