Re: Help with fitting transom in

Welcome warnie,

Sounds like you are doing a restoration... Pictures of what you are working on help us to help you see what you see.

This will get you a lot of good info... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=288451

Especially #11 and #15, two of the most thorough builds...Tons of great info.

There is no ONE way to attach a transom plate to the hull...

You will need;

Some form of clamping that will apply even pressure to the entire piece.

Thickened Resin, A.K.A. PB [Peanut Butter]=[resin+cabosil+chopped fibers], or...

Resin + CSM [Chopped Strand Mat]...both methods, when properly done work equally well.

Then it will need to be tabbed in...

The most important consideration is a completely solid bond between the transom plate and the hull's inner skin...no air pockets!

Best of Luck and Have Fun!

Re: Help with fitting transom in

the problem with using PL construction glue to attach a transom....is that the carp takes a few days to cure!

this is what happens to pl if you glass it and dont let it cure for a few days

picgroup23018.jpg

if you spread thickened resin on the skin....then glass it.....then attach the wet glassed transom to the hull and clamp her down......
you can immediately move on to filling the gap with pb and tabbing the new transom on....

by the time you are finished filling and tabbing......you can pull your clamps and do your 1.5 csm and 1708 full wrap and walk away and drink beer before the pl has even set !

everything wet on wet.....chemical bonding......it does not get better than that !
