We have a 28' 1990'ish Princecraft Pontoon boat I have pictures but do not know how to post one.

This is a Live release boat that has sat for 15 years. We have just refurbished it but after only the 4th use we blew the little 90 hp Evinrude. The boat is made to haul 600 gallons of water and fish. We have a 200 merc available to us to use. Can someone tell me what the max rating is?

you can see the boat at www.nevadabassfederation.com

Thank you

Re: Help with Horse Power

As you have probably checked, the Princecraft's website doesn't list a 28' pontoon. But their 27 footer is rated for a 115hp so one could safely assume the 29 footer would be rated for a maximum of 150 hp and maybe only 115. In either case, I think the 200 would too much.

Call the company and ask, that is alot of weight to be pushing.

If the motor pan is all aluminum you could be okay but if there is wood in it I really doubt ot is rated that high.

Thank you for replying,

Believe me, we have been all around the web for an answer and left messages with Brunswick. The mount is aluminum and seems to be all one piece with the frame. I have better pictures if you have an address to send it to.

Thank you,

Re: Help with Horse Power

Have you looked on the boat for a rating tag.Usually on the back of the boat somewhere.200 hp is probably too much. With that kind of weight a 200 wouldn't do much for speed anyway.Pontoon won't plane so once you get to about 18 or 20
it takes a lot of hp to add much speed.A 200 at wide open throttle would use about 20 gph(gallons per hour)

Yours is a 1992 model according to the VIN. I can only come up with a 1993 Versailles 28'er and the max. HP is listed as 115.
