help with ignition

I have a 170hp merc.two of the four spark plug wires accidently came off the distributor. How do I make sure I put them back on in the correct order on the distributor

1-3-4-2 is the firing order. I believe the distributor rotation is CW. (find out by pulling the cap and turning over the engine.) Find where the ones left go and fill in the spaces.

The first thing you have to do is find out which terminal is #1 You do that as explained in this thread.

Then go 1-3-4-2 with your plug wires.

If you still have 2 wires on there, and know the rotation and firing order, you should be able to figure out where the other 2 go without figuring out which is #1 (at least, I can't think of a situation where that wouldn't be the case).
