Hello Everyone!

First post so I hope Im in the correct forum. I purchased a 1959 18' AlumaCraft hull to use as a project. However im not certain on the model, or the HP rating? Can anyone help? I think I received a pretty good deal, my brother and I purchased the hull and trailer for $400.

Thanks
Jeff

PS
This is by far the best "all boat" forum I have ever come across!!!

Hey let me be the first to say....WELCOME TO IBOATS!!!!!!!

Yep if your subject is boats - you are definately at the right place! I cant help you out on your question bout the make and model but a quick estimate would say you probably got an ok deal on it. Aluminum boats seem to keep their value pretty well. And yours appears to have aged well. Looks like a pretty straight forward project!

Good luck on your project and hopefully one of the more seasoned guyz will show up shortly to answer your questions!

Congrats on the purchase!

Re: Help with Make and Model of boat

I think its pretty straight forward, with the exception of a small center console. I have mid 60's 15' Starcraft and really dislike the forward helm. there just isnt enough room in these smaller aluminum boats to have a bunch of seats throughout the cockpit. So in reality the interior should be a breeze. Im just a little concerned about finding an outboard for it. I have a 40 hp that isnt being used but I really dont think the boat will plane with such a small motor. I was thinking about a 60-100 hp motor but I havent been able to find anything. 6 weeks ago Craigslist was flooded with them and now, nothing lol just my luck!. So if anyone has anything out there with controls and ele. including steering let me know =).

welcome to iBoats....

First, i'll ask the obvious question....have you looked all over the boat for a rating plate?? it generally lists the max weight and HP that boat can take.

it's really a cool looking boat

Re: Help with Make and Model of boat

I have looked, i can see where it used to be:D. My father said I'd be fairly safe with a 65 hp motor, with I'm inclined to believe but if the boat andI can afford a larger motor I'd like to go bigger. The boat came with a bill of sale and no title. Anyone in MI have any experence with that. I've built a few smaller skiff's in thne past and was able to obtain a "MCZ" #, is it the same in this case?

Re: Help with Make and Model of boat

I don't know what the rules are in MI but in PA you are required to have a capactiy plate on the boat. My boat didn't have one when I got it, so I had to apply for one. It asks for length, beam, and transom height and they use some formula to determin the # of persons and lbs capacity and also the HP rating for it.
