I just bought a new prop for my Searay w/3.0l it's a Merc factory 19 pitch. In the hub kit there is a hard plastic hub that slides in the front of the prop. What I am wondering about is which way does the hub slide in? One way slides easily but the metal spilned part one engages about 1 1/2 inches of the prop shaft. Does the closed end face foward or the open end face foward? I am new to I/O's I am use to OMC outboards this is all new to me.

Re: Help with Merc hub kit

Hello
You have a flo-torque hub kit
place the thrust washer on with the tapered ID matching the tapered shaft
next place the black plastic hub in the prop with the four nubs sticking out of the fwd end of the proip. slide the bronze part in from the aft end of the prop. slide this assy onto the well greased propshaft. add the locking tabwasher then the lock nut
tighten the lock nut making sure that the nut nests inside the lock tab. now you need to use a wood block and wedge it between a prop blade and the cavitaion plate. the torque spec will be on the instructions. memory serves up a 55 ft pound number. prop shaft nut torque is critical on the hub. if it is loose it will break up the hub. then bend over a tab to lock the nut and remove the wedge. open a cool refreshing beverage and enjoy your handi work :)
good luck and keep posting
