help with mercury 700 what year

I bought a used Chaparral with a mercury 700 outboard. The dealer listed it as 1987 motor. The ser# is 4716837 all info I can find on this motor indicates it might be a 1977 motor. Any help would be really appreciated.

According to your serial number, I believe that 1977 is correct..

serial no 4571652 - 4825248 is -77. Go get the b-rd.

OK thanks for the info. I contacted the deale and they claim because it was a consignment boat they rely on the sellers info. In any event they will work out something with me. Again thanks for the help.
