So I am embarking on a boating project and I need the trusted knowledge of this community. I am looking for a link to a site, book, anything that can help me determine the pitch on some props I'm looking at. I have read through all the prop posts on this site looking for some matching numbers, but I have not had any luck. I also found a site that gives me the ID's for a few of the PJ-XX props, but that is where my luck ran out again, so I thought I would ask. The ones I am in search of are all 10"-10 1/2", 3/4" shaft, and pin drive.

These are brass 2 blade, 3/4" shaft, pin drive, 10-10 1/2"
numbers on the props:
  • 4J2-41 8039
  • AJC-451
  • AJ-462
  • AJC-461
  • AJ-10
3 blade brass, 3/4" shaft, pin drive, 10-10 1/2"
  • 381-A
3 blade aluminum, 3/4" shaft, pin drive, 10-10 1/2"
  • SMC-715
  • SMC-944
  • SMC-627
  • A-445
  • 12-1025
  • 12-1017
I have several propellers that I know what their pitch is and have tried to put some rhyme/reason to the number and see if I could logic my way to finding what I need; unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any. I have a twin engine project that I am working on and I'm trying to find matching 13-14 pitch props. Thank you in advance for all your help. I will post pictures as I get things put together.

I am reasonably certain that AJC and SMC props are Michigan. In those days, Michigan was THE prop to run unless you had cubic money. You can call Michigan customer service and they can go back in their database and get you specifications.

If you have a prop of KNOWN pitch you can put another on top of it and eyeball it. If they are the same series prop same pitch will easily be visible.

In 10 inch diameter 13 to 14 pitch is relatively easy to find. Higher pitches are a bit more difficult. In the photos in the other post, the three blade bronze is an OJ (Oakland Johnson)15 or 16 pitch with a modified hub to fit a Chrysler or Force.

Thank you for your help!

I don't know how much pitch would be to much? Running the stock Evinrude prop, which I believe to be 10x10 would get me ~28 mph. I put a 10x12 which gained me speed, but it seemed really underpowered. I'm only assuming that a pair of 10x14 would do what I want. I really have no scientific basis, but that twin engines with polished bronze props would look really cool. The props I listed are ones for sale, but I would like to know what they are before spending money.
