So i just bought a 1995 mazda millenia that was in a low speed accident for $200. I am working on putting the thing back together. Some fool took off the belt tensioner for the alternator belt, and for the life of me I cannot figure out where it goes. it is a 2.5liter motor. the ford probe has the same motor. can anyone help shed some light on this? Below are a few pics of the car, and the best i could get of the motor. thanks.

Don't know if this will help you, but I used to have a 95 626 with same motor. If I remember right, if the belt is on the wrong side of the tensioner, it won't get tight. It will look right, but wont work.
Look around the motor compartment for a belt routing sticker, the owner manual has it in it also.

Who in the world would want to remove the tensioner and think it would work?

Re: Help with my mazda

after the accident the car went to a shop. They were the ones who took off the belt tensioner and never put it back on. The car spent a week there and they still could not figure out why it would not run. After a week of no luck i brought it home, and they still wanted to charge me $400 for there work. I threw them $100 and just left with the car. I was pretty mad. Turned out the car needed a new distributor. Put one in, it fires right up. But i now can't figure out this stupid belt tensioner.

Some Shops:mad:

I suggest to stop by a salvage yard and ask if you can look at a wrecked car similar to yours. Chances are they have what you need.

Thanks for the help. I know it is pretty tight. I have taken off the motor mount, and jacked up the side of the engine to gain a little more access.

That is a good idea about a wrecking yard. might make a trip down there tomorrow.

Heck I've stopped by car sales places and peaked under the hood of a similar car that I was working on. They always want me to test drive:D

Re: Help with my mazda

The fabulous manual that I have does not have a picture it only tells you to look for the routing picture posted under the hood.

The tensioner is between the alternator and the crankshaft. The belt goes over the top of the alternator and then under the tensioner on its way to the top of the crankshaft pulley.

There is another tensioner that is between the power steering and the crankshaft pullley. The belt goes over the top of the tensioner coming from the bottom of the crankshaft pulley and the bottom the powersteering pulley.

The upper tensioner should fit just to the lower left of the alternator.

Thanks for the info, That will help a lot!

I also have a manual that does not show the diagram, and the hood i bought to replace the old one does not have it either. But i think i can figure it out.

Thanks guys, I will let you know tomorrow how it went.
