I love boats..., so when my father gave me a free, (I know, there's no such thing), boat I dreamed of how it would look shiny and restored... Now that I look at it, I figure I am just lucky it floats...! I have a 1966 Chrysler 16 ft. Fiberglass... The hull is in great shape, no soft spots, but a few areas of cracking, they appear to be just surface cracks... How can you tell if this OLD thing is safe? I have had it in the water, and it does'nt leak, the motor is a 25hp 2 stroke, same year, and runs great... I cleaned the carb, the fuel pump, and it fires right up... Would like to restore it, but no little about fiberglass...? Can I sand it down, and glass over the top? waht about painting?
the inside, floor has that old white pourous material, I hate, and also has the surface cracks in spots, again no soft spots... I think it is just the paint on the inside...

Any help would be great

johndoe,

If it doesn't leak, it's just fine.

Sure you can paint it. A good place to find marine painting info. is: www.westmarine.com

Wow...
completely amazing..!!! You have all the right skills with all the right tools... A job well done..

I have a few years of acquiring the tools and the skills (hoepfully not the hard way) but I hope to be 1/2 as good as this project looks... very soon, so my 66 Chrysler can shine some day.

Great Job!!!
