Help with older Yamaha 5hp

Hi, new to this particular forum but not to Iboats or outboards.
A friend just recieved a Yamaha 5Cs with Id plate markings of a small N, then 6E3 and finally S133880 (which I'm guessing is the serial #.) He seems to feel that the motor is a 1984. Anyway, the motor looks OK and was reportedly running OK several years back but is now frozen after a few years of storage. Previous owner said it was not uncommon for it to be frozen every spring??? Anyway, I'm looking to help him out with needed repairs but don't have much tech data to start with. ( I've owned OMC, MERC, NISSAN, TOHATUSU, Suzuki but never a Yamy.)
So does anybody have any good info/links on Parts /technical refferences for this older little kicker. Any info/thought appreciated.

Welcome to the Yamaha side.

I do not know if I can help that much, but I believe 1984 was the 1st year they imported to the USA. A manual for it maybe hard to find but not impossible, but I have never looked for one that old. Try this site

Just like any outboard a frozen motor is not a good thing. Something must have rusted to make it stick.
IMHO a disassemble and inspection is needed to see what has happened and what is needed to fix.
At that point find out the parts needed and if you can find them.
if the bolts don't come out without breaking, it is just a bit of your time lost

Thanks for the link. Will order the manual ASAP. He and a mechanic friend jsut tore down the motor and found where it seized ( in area where shaft goes through L shaped brace with seals. ) He's going to try locally for all teh parts and gaskets he needs but I'm wondering if there is a good online source for Yamy parts ( as i have found with other brands.)
