I've got an '86 23' marlin that I'm re-upholstering. I've been able to find marine grade vinyl for $12 a yard and am wondering what to do about the padding for the seats. Does it take a special foam or just regular yellow 4 inch stuff? Also anybody know where I can get the best deal on stuff like that?

Thanks

Most decent fabric stores sell it. It's just standard poly foam. I can't buy squat for a boat in my area, but JoAnn Fabrics sells marine vinyl and Foam. Go figure :)

AC Moore, Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics, places like that all sell it. There's no advantage to mail order, because it's bulky to ship.

mattman21:

Just a word of advice... I redid my boat with some marine grade vinyl this summer, that I got from Jo-Ann Fabrics. It was the Proquinal Vinyl. Now its starting to rip because it is to light of a weight.. I am going to have to redo the whole thing... And as far as foam goes, there are different types, I think you need to use the real small celled foam cause it floats better and resists mildew and water better...

Try this place also

http://store.yahoo.com/yourautotrim-store/marinevinyls.html

Same prices as the other place mentioned except they have swatch cards you can order..

I was referred to this place from someone in the upholstery business. Not only do they know their stuff, but they've got just about anything you'd need!
Rochford Supply

Also, if you've got some time, look through this forum (and its archives).
Upholstery Forum
