I am having a hard time determining which company I shall purchase a center console fishing boat from. Currently I am headed towards the Sea Chaser 1950RG, made by Carolina Skiff. If there are any suggestions or ideas please inform me. The boat will be used in the bay and some open water fishing so I need to make sure I have the size and power to weather anything I may come across. I appreciate it and happy boating.

Re: Help with selecting the appropriate boat.

I was in your same pridicament a month ago looking at the sea chaser and the key largo. Both are similar in hull designs except that sea chasers gunnels angle out more and give the appearance of a wider boat until you get in it. The Keylargo was wider and the gunnels were not at a steep angle. I opted for and purchased the Key Largo 190 last week with a Mercury saltwater 150 and love it.

i run the bay in a 20' center console w/ 150hp outboard. it works well, but i don't like the nasty stuff. i think a 22-23' w/ 200-225hp would be perfect, if you can afford it. enjoy-

Thank you I will check out their site. If you don't mind me asking, was there a significant price increase with the Key Largo? Are there any other boats that you were comparing as well?

I ran a 19'er with a 140 hp for years in south Florida - Biscayne Bay/off shore - many was the day I was not comfortable with wind or waves and was not able to go where I wanted to. Bought a 23' CC with twin 110 hp SeaDrives 10 years ago. What a difference a couple of feet make. Go as big as you can and you won't regret it.
