Tried to upload pictures s but they're too large. Anyhow, I have two serial numbers. #6720258 on an orange label along with some engine specs and serial #671893 on a label that also says drive unit. It's a carbed 140 mercruiser in a 1983 Sea Ray Seville. I'd like to start ordering some parts for my spring project but I'm not seeing those numbers listed in the iboats parts catalog. Do I have the wrong serial numbers?

Those are right looking numbers but they are old. If you look at some parts lookups they will have serial number ranges for each part. What parts are you looking for?

Impeller, ignition conversion or points/condenser, shift cable and maybe shift plate kit, fuel filter and complete bellows kit. I'd also like to know which carb I have. I of course purchased the boat used and don't have a manual.

Just place a 0 in front of your serial number to make it 06720258 Your drive serial number is missing a digit but you can do the same thing with that one as long as you have the correct serial number. The 0 is a placeholder for most mercury parts software.
I guess I should mention this doesn't work for everything. I don't know the criteria but I havne't had it sucesfully work on anything older than 82

Your engine serial number is coming up as an,
MERCRUISER
1984
140
Model number 01408004 which uses parts catalog part number 90-41261. Here is iboats parts catalog for you,
http://www.iboats.com/140-GM-181-I-L...iew_id.1690609

120 H.P./2.5L140 H.P./3.0L R/MR/ALPHA ONE
By guessing at a missing number at the end of the stern drive has your drive to be,
MERCRUISER
1984
1.98:1 MC1
Model number 01987014
http://www.iboats.com/R-MR-ALPHA-ONE...iew_id.1704120
R/MR ALPHA ONE STERNDRIVE

The correct serial # is 6718093. I missed a "0" in the middle there. Where did you find this info? Thank you so much for your help!

I guessed close enough for the stern drive info above to be the exact same....Unfortunately iboats doesn't have an area to input OEM serial numbers so it takes another method to ensure you're getting/finding the correct parts catalog with them.
