Help with switching cables

I recently bought a boat with a 1993 Suzuki DT200 motor. I got a good deal on the the boat because the lower unit had a crack around the prop and the seller was motivated. I found another lower unit in good shape and had it installed by the nearest Suzuki mechanic. The problem is that my new lower unit is counter-rotating where the original was standard rotation. The mechanic called and said the boat was good to go. I was in a hurry and foolishly took his word on it. Took the family to a launch yesterday, everyone got aboard, and lo and behold when I put it in forward it goes backward and vice versa. I talked to the Suzuki guy today to express my displeasure and he said it's as easy as switching the cables. Is it? I'm new to boats. I'm not a mechanical idiot, but I've never done anything like this. Is this something I should try or should I take it to another mechanic? Any advice or pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

Re: Help with switching cables

I'm not sure that would work, not to familiar with counter rotating issue. Looks like it 'd be better to either switch the lower unit prop shaft from the original lower unit or get a counter rotating prop. Assuming you got a good deal on lower unit to afford the different prop.

My Daddy once said I wasn't the sharpest tack in the box, so maybe it'd be a simpler matter of switching the cable positions. I don't know about that though.
