Hello. I purchased an old boat and partial restore . It is a 1970s 15 ft terry 460 cm. The engine on it is a 1977 75hp evinrude. Now the tilt trim motor is shot I think. I am not knowledgable about tilt trims. Best I can discover the tilt assembly matches that motor. It's a double arm type. Not a single as I've seen. My question is do I need a specific assembly for this motor ? Or will any tilt trim system be suited.? Can the hydraulic motor be replaced and if so with what kind? See I'm really ignorant on this subject. I'll try and answer any other info I can.

you think it is shot...based on what diagnostic ?

does the motor run ? if so does it just run in UP or DOWN position ?
does it just not go UP
does it trim down after being raised ?
does it appear to have leaked oil ?
have you inspected the oil level ?
is therea fuse you can check if blown ?

etc...tell us more !

The engine is fine up or down. I refer to tilt trim motor. Doesnt lift or lower. No response at all. And the seals are leaking when manually moved. I have tested power all the way to tilt moter. I am pretty sure it's done. I guess what I ask is do I have to replace with same system. Or can I just scrap this one and replace with another type. Or is it gonna be easier and cheaper to replace/fix the cylinders and motor. Maybe even some suggestions of a good replacement if possible.

You might be able to adapt / install a MERCURY / MERCRUISER trim pump.----The ones that were mounted inside the boat.----Keeps the working bits out of the weather.

Start by just replacing the motor. Those can be found to fit and they're not that expensive, plus pretty simple to install and wire. Usually, the hydraulic portion can be rebuilt with new seals.

Call me an idiot. it's TRUE. Thank you for your answers. That's what I was wondering. If I should fix this one or just replace. And if replace. exactly what are my options to replace.
