Help with towing/launching.

I am new to boating and I am probably going to purchase a 22" Pathfinder.

Will my 2006 2wd GMC Sierra Crew Cab 5.3L V8 with towing package be ok at the South West Florida boat ramps or should I look into a 4wd?

i towing a 5,000 lb deckboat, with a 99 Surburban. no problems. that GMC should handle it real nicely, as long as you have trailer brakes. for Florida, suggest Surge brakes with washouts.

If your worried about the rear wheel drive slipping while on the ramp just throw in some wood blocks in the back and if she starts to roll throw them behind the tires. Most people swear by 4x4s in launching and removing the boat on the ramp, but i use a front wheel drive SUV and havent had any troubles. Let us know what you decide.

You should be fine with your current setup for hard paved launches, don't do any beach launching. Welcome to the forum!!

That truck will be fine. If it does not have limited slip or a locker, I would put one in. You will need both wheels pulling on occasion when the ramp is wet. Remember in low traction situations, you will really only have one wheel drive.

Make some friends with some fatties. Just have them sit in the bed for extra traction. It might be cheaper as long as you dont have to spring for dinner.

At one time, very few towing trucks were 4x4. Ramp designers must have that in their minds. I have never had trouble pulling a boat up a ramp if my tires are good and I don't give it too much power. Limited slip/posi-traction is real nice. On paper your truck sounds great. Try it, then you'll know.

I don't give it too much power. great advice. all you need is to get it rolling, no need to spin the wheels on a ramp. also driving with 2 feet, gas and brake keeps the traction.
