Help with unknown part

An unknown plastic parts fell out of my 1999 Larson LXI with a Volvo Penta 5.0GI and a SX-M 1.60 (3868891) out drive when removing it. They are melted and deformed by the heat of the exhaust. They are soft and pliable. I don't want to replace the outdrive until I know where these came from. I have looked at expanded drawings, but I don't see anything like them. Below are pictures. Any clues?

Welcome aboard.

I believe that is what's called a shutter to keep water from filling the motor from backflow. V-P calls them seals in some applications.

Thanks! I found the link below which explains that Volvo stopped putting the shutters in their newer exhaust pipes. I also found that certain exhaust bellows have the shutters installed and some do not. I need to replace the bellows. Which should I use, one with the shutter or one without? Does it matter? I ask because if it was important, why would Volvo remove it? I'm thinking these came from the exhaust pipes and were blown down to the outdrive.

Mod EDIT: Link editted

The shutters fit in the top of the "Y" pipe inside the boat.

Look at the V-P parts section of the iboats.com store by clicking on the Volvo-Penta box. Select your motor and look at exhaust and cooling to find the seals you need.

In the sample partial diagram below, item #24 is the shutter or seal.

Here's the service manual about exhaust flappers.

I believe a bulletin p25.1.2 was recommending removing the exhaust seals (flappers) as they were causing more harm than good as evident by the melted one... you may want to double check on your model.

That's the document I attached above your post. Not sure why I called it a service manual...
