The only thing i know from that is its a 17pitch, also found out its a 13 1/4

The only thing I can tell is I believe the 48 prefix is a Mercury number.
Prop number would depend on your application,AL. or SS number of blades etc.If you tell us the make and year of your motor someone may be able to tell spline count and if this prop will fit.

One imporntant thing is how many splines you have on your gear that connects the prop to the shaft. Count the number of teeth all the way around the gear in the hub, and the need a prop with that same number of splines. Most are between 13 and 15 splines.

Re: Help with which props to use?

Thanks steel!! I found out it is a 15 spline count..I have seen other props with 15 and the same 13 1/4 but different part #'s!! Donno if they are ok or not!!!

Also its a 88 mercury 115 "tower of power"

An other thing, are the 4 blades alot better then the 3 blades?

ID think a 4 would push more water!! If anyone can help with that also!!

Thanks

Re: Help with which props to use?

Did you not see the sticky at the very top of this forum that says READ THIS FIRST? The part number that you provided is a Mercury prop and it identifies that specific prop. So if you want an exact duplicate of the that prop you go to your Mercury dealer, hand him that number and he provides you with the exact duplicate. That number means nothing to any other propeller manufacturer as they have there own numbers. They may cross reference diameter, pitch, and spline counts, but the design of their prop may be totally different and their part number will not resemble the Mercury number. I take it you want a new prop but you don't know why. Changing props is done for two basic reasons. Either to replace a damaged prop or to fine tune the setup in which case you are looking to change prop design, material, or pitch. You need to do some testing to get some baseline numbers and you may find you already have the best prop. You can't just slap a prop on willy nilly and think you are improving things.
