I have a 2002 Yamaha kicker and I noticed the tiller arm was loose. Well turns out it can come out completely from ththe joint and is just be held by the wires. Looks like the threaded piece that is attached to the arm corroded and broke at the joint.

Any idea on how to remove the broken piece that is attached to the arm, repair and screw back on?

Without knowing the model I have not a clue. Could be a four stroke. Could be a two stroke. Could be a 2 HP kicker. Could be an F25 HP kicker.

Looks like a new steering handle part will be needed. IMO. Item 25, part number 6G8-42113-01-4D. I don't think you can trust any repair to what is more than likely cast aluminum. $75 (or less) at your local Yamaha US dealer.

You first remove the control cables from the motor. Then unscrew the nut that attaches the tiller arm to the steering bracket. Remove the tiller handle and control cables from the steering bracket. Unbolt and discard the broken piece. Install and fasten the new part. Slide the control cables back through the steering bracket and attach fasteners and washers. Tighten the nut. Reinstall the control cables.
