Is the flywheel hub threaded on or pressed on to the crank? Merc 50 1979 #5336026. How does it come off? Thanks.

Re: Help!

It's held on with a taper fit and a key.

Use a mercury flywheel puller.

Re: Help!

-Get or make a strap wrench to hold the flywheel.
-unscrew the crank nut
-get a flywheel puller for a Mercury off ebay. the puller fits multible models. the puller screws into the flywheel with a knockoff bolt in the center. it works great.
-the flywheel is keyed to the crank with a tapered fit.

Good luck.

Re: Help!

Thanks for you're reply. Could I use a regular automotive style jaw puller on this?

Re: Help!

I would not. The mercury puller is designed for this job and works great. In my opinion, I think you run the risk of warping your flywheel using other methods.
