While installing new battery in my 3.0 mercruiser the positive was hooked up and the negative touched the positive and creates a spark now I have no power to anything on the dash. Checked fuses that I knew of and it also has power to the trim. Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to iboats!:welcome:

Sounds like you popped the main circuit breaker on the motor. Look for a red push button:

Let me see if I understand this.........On a single battery setup boat?.....While replacing the one and only battery and w the main positive cable already hooked up to the positive battery post, the loose main(the one and only, no other blk grd wires were or are hooked to the negative post up yet?) negative cable touched the positive post?

And when the negative cable(one and only) touched the positive post(w as stated above, positive cable already attached) , it sparked?

And now no power to dash?

So far so good?

That can't be it, sam. There would be no complete circuit. Lloyd, please explain exactly what touched what, and where. What exactly isn't getting power?

PS: I misread your original post. The power trim gets power from the main engine breaker, so that was clearly not the problem.

One of the blk cables was hooked up already when the small blk cable touched the positive post. I traced the main pink and blue wire from the circuit breaker to the fuse panel for dash and didn't see anything wrong with wire. All fuse in panel are good.

Ahhhhhhh, now this makes more sense and I have no clue.

Do you have a year, make and model number? Maybe someone knows this thing by previously messing with that or perhaps a schematic is out there.

There should be a fuse or circuit breaker on the corresponding small positive wire within a foot of the battery.

looking at a electrical diagram for your motor you should have a 20 amp inline fuse near the ignition key positive feed. so look under the console for the purple/red wire and there should be a inline fuse holder.
