Hesitation when opening throttle 206R

Hello all, I have a issue I have been trying to solve for my 1985 260R Mercruiser.

When accelerating- going on plane, or just picking up speed, I have a hesitation before picking up speed. Basically, when I push the throttle forward, a pause in power occurs for a second or two, and then the RPM starts picking up.

Usually this happens everytime I go on plane, but also may occur just picking up speed from slow to medium speed. I am not pushing forward fast on the throttle.

I had the carb rebuilt recently, and have changed the fuel seperator recently.

Thanks,

dan

when was you last COMPLETE tune up?

was the accelerator pump replaced during the "rebuild"

My question as well, and if so was the linkage for the accelerator pump put back into the correct hole?

Thanks for you quick responses.

As far as a tuneup - I replaced my sparkplugs/ignition coil and wires recently, as well as replace my rotor and cap for the thunderbird ignition. Other then that I clean my flame arrestor yearly, and perform standard tune-ups items such as change oil and filters.

180shabah, what else would you consider a full tune-up that might address this issue.

In answer to the second question, I have no idea if the accelerator pump was replaced. I will have to look into that. Do you need to take apart a lot of stuff to either replace or clean it? If it is very expensive, probably not because it was only 125.00 to have the carb rebuilt.

Alpheus, how do I verify which linkage is correct? I have a Carter AFB...Can I look in the top and double check?

Re: Hesitation when opening throttle 206R

Update - I just talked to the carb shop, they replace the accelerator pump as part of the standard rebuild, so it is at least new. They said to make sure it is injecting gas when I pump the throttle. They also do a linkage adjustment as part of the rebuild, so if this is true, should not be a linkage issue.

He also said to try tweaking the fuel mixture 1/2 turn in either direction and see if that helps.

I will update after I test...

Those screws only effect IDLE mixture. The lever for the accelerator pump jas three holes in it, which hole is being used?

The link is in the last possible hole, away from the pump.
So it looks like to me that if you move it towards the pump (up one) you will increase the amount of gas being injected - is that correct?

Alright 180shabah, don't desert me now!!

Are you thinking I should shorten the accelerator pump linkage, or lengthen it?
To much fuel getting pumped, or not enough?

thanks!

You need longer stroke - more fuel...
