WHEN I THROTTLE UP THE ENGINE STALLS OR HESITATES I HAVE A 120 4CYL 1981 MERCRUISER. I'VE REPLACED ALL THE ELECTRICAL PARTS. I THINK IT HAS A CARBURETOR PROBLEM?

Check that timing is correct. If it still does it install a carb kit with a new accelarator pump.

Re: HESITATION

Is this only under a load w/ the outboard engaged? Are you able to rev engine w/o it engaged?

With engine not running. Look down the throat of the carburetor.
Have someone pump the throttle, you should see a spurt of fuel
with each pump. If not the accelerator pump is not working.
Rebuild as Trent said.

Re: HESITATION

For what it is worth, I had a '84 140 OMC (3.0 liter vs. your 2.5 liter, but based on the same GM engine). From the day it was new it would hesitate if I hammered the throttle instead of feathering. The ONLY thing that worked for me was 1-2 bottles of cheap fuel treatment in every tank. Didn't matter what it was; lead replacemnet, STP fuel treatment etc. etc. If I used it I could slam the throttle for pulling skiers etc., if I didn't it would burp . . . Very unscientific, no real explanation, it just plain worked.

BTW, I am an idiot when it comes to carburetors, so it is a good thing this helped. :D
