Hi all,

I just moved. I'm in the process of putting everything away in my garage. I found the distributor and coil, with new Accell wires, from my 1988 OMC 3.0. I don't need it. Perfect shape, even in a box ready to ship. First person that replies that they need it gets it. The coil, points, cap, rotor and condenser have less than 3 months of run time on them. The distributor (shaft, gear, etc) itself in in perfect shape. I was going to ebay it but decided to do some charity work instead and give it away here. Please only reply if you need it, I'd rather give it to someone that needs it than to someone that wants a spare. OK? This is my small way of saying thank you to all the help I got for all you good people here.

PS the reason I have all this is because I installed an EST ignition in my boat last year, and kept the original components.

Thanks,

Shane, thanks!

Notinbig, The 4.3 is a 6 cylinder. The 3.0 is a 4 cylinder. Sorry!

This as far as I know will work in just about any year Mercruiser or OMC 2.5L or 3.0L (153ci or 181ci).

I'll leave this posted here until it's claimed.

If you still have the parts I could use them.

I have a 1972 Larson tri-hull with a 140 Mercruiser.

Steve

Steve,
I do need to replace worn timing parts on my 1987 3.0 OMC. My plan was to go with the standard points, condenser, etc... but now you have me curious as to the electronic conversion. Can you please tell me if your happy with it, was it worth it? Thanks, Tom K.

Hi Guys, sorry, haven't checked this in a while. Forgot about it.

Stevie and Barrman, whoever emails me their shipping address first, to shuminski (at) gmail (dot) com gets it. Fair?

Thomose, If you can get your hands on an EST setup, do it. On my boat, it made the engine run so much smoother. Idle was smoother, startup was quicker, and setting the timing was easier since the timing is electronic and does not bounce around like it does with points. Go for it if you can.

Later,

Thanks for the info. Steve, it sounds like it's the way to go. Is yours the Pertronix setup? Also did you have to do the diode modification to the shift assist? Thanks Tom

Re: Hey 3.0 Owners! Freebie!! Quick!!

It was not Pertronix, though I've heard good things about them.

It was a Delco EST. Stock on the newer Mercruisers and OMC's. Didn't need the diode. Bypassed the EST completely, wired the distributor "timing shunt" lead directly to the cutout switch as per a mercruiser diagram I found on the net. It momentarily killed the timing advance, causing the engine to stumble. Worked BETTER than the EST module in my poinion. Shifting was super smooth, and easier than it was with the EST module. Actually if you search my posts here you might find some info about it.

Good Luck!
