hey bud,<br /> i got to use my bouncing monkey style this weekend. i took my daughter out on the withlacooche river fishing in the shade tree special ( my 12 ft jon boat). those things sure are small when you give a girl a 7 ft pole. she hit me right in the lip with a minnow on its way out to never never land. it put a slime mark on my flavor saver, up the side of my nose and bounced off my eyebrow. only my bouncing monkey training saved me.( and a lot of luck )she said that nose rings were the style now and i should quit living in the 80's. next came a long lesson in the pecking order of a fishing monk in training. style, form and focus were all discussed.( not to mention the gator bait clause in her contract... small print) thank god for good gung fu. <br /> gotto go derwood

withlacoochee?!! thats where i spent alot of my time in S.GA. it is the place to learn fishing 101. bluegill, warmouth, red-ear, crappie, pumpkin-seed, lgm bass, catfish, redhorse suckers,... everything but flyperch - goto suwanee for those. when my little girl gets big enough, i hope i still have access to the blue springs on the withlacoochee, just south of WildAdventures in ValdostaGA... what memories.<br />But if my little girl doesn't pick up the unspoken words of silence, the fishermens etiquette of artistic casting, then what will i do? maybe i send her to derwoods gung ho zen fishin discipline school....

Withlacoochee. For the folks who may not have heard the pronunciation of a river named by the Indians, it's pronounced phonetically "Willie-coochie" <br /><br />A beautiful place to drift fish. Or just talk about the finer things in life with a daughter. The color of the water is like iced-tea. And for those who haven't been to Blue Springs, it's a beautiful clear pool of water with cave opening about 40 feet down. Divers use the entrance to enter a labrynth of limestone caves and caverns. But a word of caution for those who haven't dove there before, it's easy to get lost in the cave system. Many divers have lost their lives after becoming disoriented and lost.<br /><br />derwood, I can picture you standing in the bow of a 12 footer practising your forms. keeeeiiiiii !<br />I haven't quite figured out your writing style -- it's a mixture of Mark Twain and Grasshopper And I like it! <br /><br />Wanna go fishin'?

hey guys,<br /> i belive that the calusa indians gave it that name. they were here before the seminols and i think thats true but i'm not sure. later they may have even merged. i am a little rusty on my indian history. i am not sure weather or not this withlacooche river is the same one that is in georgia or not since i have not looked up its entire coarse on a map but the way you guys describe it it sounds the same. one very pretty river indeed and full of fish. i do have bad news about it. the last years of drought have taken its toll on the river here in central fla. it has actually dryed up for hundreds of feet and stoped flowing altogether for months at a time. we got some good rain this winter but now the summer heat and lack of rain are taking its toll once again and it has dropped another four feet. i can not traverse the river in my 12ft jon any more untill we get some rain. how very sad to see this great river in such bad shape. for now it is still flowing , but i can't say for how long. i hunt points when i get a good spot to look.( not to often ) but some times surveying i do get the chance. i have even done some flintnapping as primitive survival is a hobby of mine. try flintnapping once and you will know what the phrase " in like flint " is all about, it dose give you something to do while practiceing drunkin master style ( first few beers and then its best you put it down lest you have a horsepistol fetish ) my daughter is comming along quite well in her trainning. she is developing her crain style for bait and helps with the sein net. her flying eagal tecnique spots her some nice fish. but she needs a little more work on her multi-monk ediqute. but it keeps my bouncing monkey up to snuff. soon i will teach her all my frog on lotus secreats( well mabye not all...) i've got to go now , ( my wife is comming this way with the pin for my big head... better go into bouncing monkey stance but quick.)<br /> see ya tommorow derwood

(to use an S.GA term<br />my wife graduated from ABAC...)<br />i hate to hear that,and i'll be gettin 1sthand exp next month, as i just booked the hotel down in valdosta to see some ole friends and goto wildadventures with my little one.<br />i look at it all as good/bad - its all evened out. i remember a time when it flooded the banks and we seined a pool up on top- killer fish fry!<br />but for the last few yrs its been inna drought situation, and that's fine too. the farmer i go see has a well, so he can make it thru the rough times. i used to 'cut the cane' and watch him make the syrup there, i look fwd to his place. and i believe warhorse is thinking of the springs down across the FL line, where it is now a tourist trap. this place is near a 'nowhere' section called ousley, and the farmer now oversee's land his ancestors owned, but he now doesn't own it. it is a hunting plantation, and hardly no one knows about the natural springs on the river there. it is about 8' wide x 8' deep and few divers have been in it. the cave entrance is @ 2' diam. and the only guy i know of to go in is B. Spells. he has an auto shop in valdosta. he said it is @ 4mi in length and i think @ 1 deep in some points.<br />all i know is the catfish are perfect whitebelly, and the big bass all around the area cruise in that cove! <br />i learned some amazing things in the swamps, like how people shoot fish. as in using FMJ bullets to shock the fish without actually hittin them, and then using a gig to harvest the select ones... not in this place,but it made me think of the old memories...

f.m.j. huh. thats one i have not heard. what style of gung fu is that. listen up fellas, don't jump ebtides spot while he's taken a leak. he's getten serious. <br /> i still have not looked on the map to see if they are one in the same rivers. this one here is getting low bigtime. just 100 yds from the bridge at winnhaven it is all of a wopping 1 ft deep and 50 ft wide. pretty soon i'm going to start chucking bottles of coppertone into the river as part of a redneck releaf effort for the fish. i think that it is not as bad north of here but i can't say for sure. i hope you have a great time though. i just got a big grin on my face trying to picture you all camoflaged up, bass in eusterus spray on , sitting in a tree stand fishing with your 8mm mauser. witch license do you need to take with you? i think i'll call that one thunder stick style gung fu.<br /> derwood.<br /> p.s. i just can't stop grinnen dude.

Hey it is like that everywhere the sales of sevin dust is starting to go up agian. The boys are using it to keep the ticks off the catfish till we get some water in the rivers. At least the lake is still up for now.....
