Re: HEY FRANK poerhead swap 88/95
The powerhead itself will bolt to the midleg and will fit under the hood. However, late model Force engines with Mercury ignition and controls are not my forte. They SHOULD swap, but you may need to make a few minor modifications in the way controls and ignition components are mounted.
Rememvber, the Mercury control cables mount into the lower cowling and operate the control links differently.
For example: I am currently mounting a late 80s 50 on a 1997 leg and trim unit. Because they changed the top bearing diameter, the Mercury seal and stator will not fit on top so I need to use the older ignition. The throttle tower link is shorter so I need to drill and tap an existing boss on the block for the plastic throttle link and also put in a plate support to mount the bottom of the tower. Custom work, but do-able
As far as I know, the top bearing size of the 85 and 90 is the same so either ignition should work. I don't see major problems with the swap.
