I have a 1971 dixie boat with 302 tbird motor and Volvo/penta 270 drive. I like to change the stern drive gear oil and I'm not sure what oil to put in it. I did see on here 30w was ok but ND or HD from autozone and 3 quarts capacity? Not sure what to use. Thanks in advance:)

Trouble starting a topic under FAQ?

Lets start by moving it to Volvo/Penta I/O instead of in the other outboard forum.

Hopefully your 302 is a marinized Ford rather then straight out of a T-bird

Not an I/O owner, so cant answer your type/capacity question

Welcome to iboats

The recommended oil for the AQ270 stern drive would be to use the same engine oil that you would of put in your original engine and if that's not available than a good brand 30 weight engine oil works well in that drive.

Oil: Same as engine Qty: 2.2 liters (2.32 US qts)

Recommendations
Engines
Find recommended lubricants and information on how much oil you should put into your engine and/or drive in the chapter "Technical data" in you Operator's manual. Download a pdf version

Drives
Information on sterndrives
Information on waterjet and saildrives

* If the drive was manufactured before 1986 with a 30 or 40 engines and engine oil has previously been used in the drive, then engine oil should also be used in future. - See more at: http://www.volvopenta.com/volvopent...ges/oil_information.aspx#sthash.jXHQZ36E.dpuf

The FAQ section is a list of" frequently asked questions" not a spot to ask questions.
