here is the feedback I am getting on the S-10 forum

mobil one, amsoiled, et al, GREAT lubes

BUT

you have to wait til 5000 or the rings wont be seated properly?

that would have to be cause the stuff is so slippery the rings cant "wear in" correctly then, right?

so to follow this line of reasoning, its almost as if the motor becomes wear-proof by the synthetic oil, using synthetic should allow the motor to go virtually limitless miles if properly maintained (well, lubricated, reciprocating parts anyway, I guess valves could get burned up)

and not to get too wacko on this line of thought, but synthetic rear oil should make rears last forever, since they nearly last that long anyway with dyno juice, and synthetic trans fluid would be the bomb since tranny fluid, (auto trans that is) goes thru hell in the torque converter - all parts lubed by synthetic, auto trans should go for a long long time too

synthetic grease ... eh, why not? cant hurt!

another round of obsession coming up!!!

Hey Ray,

Then how can you explain the fact that every Corvette, Porshe 911, and Ferrerri, all come with synthetic oil right from the factory?

My brothers '98 Dodge Caravan, also came from the factory with synthetic oil, Mobil 1!

Warranty would be voided if he uses conventional oil!

So, I can't imagine any reason why you would not consider the use of synthetic from day one!

First thing I did to my '87 Dodge Shadow 2.2L four cylinder, when I bought it in 1986, was to put in synthetic oil.

After 14 years of driving that car, and 378,000 miles, the transmission died, and that transmission had conventional 5W-30 motor oil in it, the interior fell apart and the body was beginning to rust, but that engine still ran perfectly, and did not burn one drop of synthetic oil.

As a matter of fact, when I changed that oil at every 5000 miles, it was still on the full mark, every time.

Just my experience with synthetic, and that is why I use it exclusivly.

Castaway:

You said it, not me!!

I like it, I use it, (for 25+ years) No problems! VERY Happy!! :D :D

As to NO WEAR, I dont think we are there yet!!

Im getting ready to change my 4X4 Ranger over, But I really like the 2 cycle oil!

Its not for everyone, I just like the added performance and protection! I could care less about the cost!

Email me, well talk more!! rays-shop1@juno.com

LubeDude

Kenny:

I dont think Ray is knocking it, (Although with his sence of humor its sometimes hard to tell!!

I think he may be actually thinking of trying it!!

Oh, I just figured out what you ment! Duh!! Ya, I have always heard of the Idea about breaking in an engine on regular oil too, but this is what I read somewhere!

Lots of overhead cam engines were failing on inicial fireup at the factory on conventional oils due to the lack of ZDDP in the new oils, so they went with a synyhetic to keep this from happening! Im not sure where I stand on this one!

I gave this site before, but give it a try, it has the most information on oil by independent analisis than any site I have ever found!
web page

LubeDude

Hey, Ray.

You can add Mercedes Benz to KennyKenCan's list of vehicles that come from the factory with synthetics.

My ML, in fact, requires it.

This is an interesting topic and I think it belongs in the Non-Boating Topics Forum. Gonna move it there so that it doesn't get lost in the chat threads.

Try it, you'll like it! :)
