I have a 140hp 1985 and I have nothing but good things to say. I would ask others in this forum about the VRO. As to whether you shoud trust the VRO or mix your own oil with the gas.

Re: Hey northend,

Hi Dude....

You'll get lots of pros and cons on the use of the VRO. I'm sort of pro VRO myself. I would ask that you take a look at the pump and see if it has been changed to a newer version with alarms. The originals, which first came out in 85', had no alarms other than the oil reservoir low alarm. The newest version has alarms for oil flow to the pump, fuel flow and low reservoir level. If you do decide to keep the VRO in service, I would highly suggest that you make sure these alarms are working. That's my opinion. There will be others. :D

Re: Hey northend,

Hi,
I had a Johnson 140 -87 and I will never buy one again. I iddled like crap and at the end of this summer the whole engine broke down due to VRO-failure. I had really bad luck and I think that the maintenance hadn't been right from the previous owner, I bought it this summer...... :(

I have friends that have had similar problems like me but also friends that have been very satisified with this engine so......

If you take care of it it may work properly, but I don't like it. That's my opinion and as I said earlier I've had really bad luck so....

good luck!

/Tommy
