Hi everyone

I have been browsing this website for a couple days now and it seems like a good place to ask, so here I am in the hope someone can help.

I have just bought a Microplus Galaxy 600 and a Evinrude 60 hp outboard motor.

My problem is when setting up the fuel lines.

I have 2 lines within the rear cabin going to a tap/splitter of some sort then 1 pipe coming from that leading to a bulb then out to the outboard motor (Image below)

I have worked out that 1 pipe connects on to a 6 gallon gas tank but where does the other go ??

Someone said it may go an oil tank so the fuel pump can suck the mixture itself but i'm not sure.

Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated

Many Thanks in advance

Paul

you must have another built in onboard fuel tank somewhere. it would not be an oil tank

Welcome to iboats !! Dubzyp

The fuel 'lines' you have, what appears, to be for 2 tanks.

Hi - Thank you for replying.

I do not have any pics at the moment but will take some tonight when I go over to the boat.

I have not seen any of these Microplus Galaxy 600 about and wondered if anyone could tell me if they have had any experience with them ?

This is my first real boat (had an inflatable 9ft with 3hp previously)

@ Xcusme

You were right - the 2 in the rear cabin are for 2 tanks.

I have got the fuel running from 2 tanks out to the motor but there is no spark and no fuel getting to the plugs.
I read somewhere that it could be the magnets on the underside of the fly wheel ?? does that sound plausible ??

This is my first boat and a real amateur and would appreciate any help in what to look for first please.

I have taken the plugs out and they look brand new, I've kept the kill switch in while trying to start and nothing.

I've squirted a bit of easy start in the carbs and still nothing.

It a 2 cylinder motor if that helps in anyway.

Please help ???

Re: Hi all I'm new and really needing some help.

Hi - sorry I've been away for a few days.

Not sure where to find the model number but since my last post I've had the motor running.
It kicks out a heck load of smoke and no water coming out of the pee pee hole / tell tale hole.

It started today for the first time in 5 years - runs rough, smokes lots, black oil in the water tank where I have the prop sitting and fuel is coming out top carb .

It had a big service before it went into storage so lots of new parts.

Any ideas on where to find model number or whats causing the problems ?
Many thanks.

Yikes!! That IS a lot of smoke!! It would be best to check and see if your water is high enough in you water bucket. The water SHOULD be about 2 or 3 inches ABOVE the lower plate. After that adjustment, then you will be able to check the water pump and if it's pumping water. Running it like it is could damage the power head , with little or no cooling water!

Re: Hi all I'm new and really needing some help.

The model number will be on a tag attached to the top or side of the transom bracket. OK, first things first...STOP RUNNING THE MOTOR!!! Find out why you have no water coming out. That motor looks new enough to have a tell tale. Have you seen one or are you just thinking it should have one? Older motors did not. Poke a small nail in the end to see if it's blocked. Drop the lower unit and push your garden hose against the water tube (inside of upper housing) water should come out somewhere. Make sure it comes out the pee-hole as well to rule out any blockage in the powerhead. If so, replace water pump impeller. It's almost certain to be bad after 5 years out of service. If not, find the blockage and then replace the impeller. Put it back together and fill the water tank at least 3-4 inches above where the water pump sits inside the housing. You should get water in just a couple seconds. If not, shut it down immediately and find the blockage . Any longer could ruin your new impeller. Next, replace ALL old fuel lines. Remove filter cover from fuel pump and clean the screen. Rebuild the carbs(necessity after 5 years). Get fresh gas and mix 50:1. Smoking issue could just be too much oil in gas. Fire it up and fine tune the carbs. Oil in tank water is normal. Excess oil comes out the exhaust. Good luck. BTW, did it smell like smoke or could that have been steam from running that long and heating up? How long was it running before you started recording?

Re: Hi all I'm new and really needing some help.

I can tell your in the uk or wouldnt have a galaxy 600. cannot see anyone exporting a microplus !!!!!!!!!!
they were built by microplus in the uk, not bad boats, just ugly in centre cockpit versions.
with the 60hp it will do around 35 to 40 mph on calm water.
Your engine needs to be in much deeper water and you need to get some fresh petrol.
then mix it at 50-1 ratio if its running on pre-mix.
have a look at the side where the fuel pipe goes into the engine...is it just the one fuel pipe ? if yes then mix new petrol with PROPER outboard 2 stroke oil, no cheap motorbike stuff as thats no good.
then run it again with water filling up the water butt.
just by the sound of the exhaust we can all hear there is not enough water getting to the engine, it needs to be 4 inches higher
than top of the prop.
the amount of smoke could be due to burning off fogging oil put in if it was stored correctly, and should be gone in about
30 minutes of running it.
but if your using stale fuel (anything older than 1 month) youl be getting all sorts of problems.

the carb is probably all gunked up and needs to be cleaned out, the float will be sticking for sure.
this engine has probably been stored in the tilted position and the carb bowl half full of oil that has now gone hard and rotten.

if you have not had enough water up the engine then you will 100% be needing a new water pump impeller. about ?25..
even if only run while doing the video, you just never run even for a few seconds without water or the impeller gets destroyed.

where in the uk are you ?
if near to me ill show you how to do it.

Re: Hi all I'm new and really needing some help.

Thank you for all the replies guys.
It's a huge help.

I had a friend up top who switched the engine only ran for those few seconds while I took the video then and then shut it down.
(have not started it since)

@Xcusme - Thank you for your reply - I'll be topping up the tank tonight

@Ronward - I shall check model number tonight and post here (think it'll be a good idea to locate a manual for it.

@phillnjack2 - Thank you for all that info, I am in the UK yes, I'm based in Surrey. (and yourself ??)

I've done a search on my boat and found virtually nothing - Is there anywhere I could find out more ??

Also - Do these outboards have a thermostat ?? because if so would the water only flow out of the pee hole when it's warmed up and opened ?

Many Thanks.

Paul.

Re: Hi all I'm new and really needing some help.

Hello dubz, im over the over side of the airport in langley, slough, where in surrey are ya ?

yes they have thermostates, but the water comming from peehole comes out anyway with or without thermostat.
you probably dont have the water high enough for the impeller to pick it up, it has to be way up over the top of propeller.

you need to have a load of water over the top of the platea bove the prop, idealy about 3 inches overthe top or run it on water muffs.
they look like headphone sort of things, but best in a water butt.

Now on the engine you will find a little metal disc, its about 1 inch diameter, this will have a number on it.
this then tells us what you have exactly, and all help can then realy start to kick in.
first thing is to take the lid off, then up on top at the back by the flywheel you might see the disc, its more on the right side
of the engine than middle (i think).
this tells model etc and lets you find out all the settings and whatever to help get it running right, also when you need parts
its needed to make sure you get the right stuff.
Many engines look identical, but do have slight differences that makes some parts just not right to swap about.

the carb cleaning is going to be very easy and straight forward, as i reckon the top float is stuck and the bowl gummed up.
its coomon when a boat is left on a trailer with engine tilted up in the uk for a varnish type stuff to make everything sticky
and not work untill properly cleaned.

on the clamp bracket that bolt the engine to the boat, on the left side or right side should be a little plaque or decal, again
this should have model number or serial number on it, but sometimes these get knocked off or broken/scratched away or
even sprayed over.

Now verycarefully have a good look at the front of the engine and it should have a big black over over the carburettors.
this is just screwed on as its a 2 part cover, you need to take this front bit off and then see there is bolts that go though the second one to the carb bodies, this keeps the secondpart of the plastic air box on the motor/carbs, this needs to come off to get at the carbs.

Once this is off, on the bottom of each carb is a big screw/bolt facing the boat, undo this bolt/screw on top carb,
but DO NOT DROP IT, youl never find it again.
make sure the engine is in the normal upright position when doing this to see if any fuel flows out of the bolt from the top carb.
it might be nice clean fuel and it might be total crud, but atleast it will let something out.
from there we can then start taking the carb off to see if its dirty.

Hello dubz, im over the over side of the airport in langley, slough, where in surrey are ya ?

Ahh - I'm in Coulsdon (about 30 miles away(ish))

I have taken the black cover off the carburettors (that's how I knew there was fuel leaking from top one)

I will be going over to the yard tonight and will be looking at all the things you guys have suggested, I'll supply a follow up post once done.

It was a right state when I first bought it and when I pulled up outside the house the wife's jaw dropped in disgust at what I had bought (lol)

Now - It look's 100000000% better

I'll try and upload some pictures.

Re: Hi all I'm new and really needing some help.

Yeah that sounds about right going by the colours of the engine etc .

So now we know its an Evinrude 60hp made in 1984, long shaft electric start 2 cylinder.
so you now have a model number if you need any parts for the engine, this will make life so much easier when / if you
go to a dealer for the bits.

the carbs on this engine are a nice easy job to do, and i bet they are dirty, right in there where you just cannot see ha ha .

By having the model it can help others help you when you ask questions etc.
anytime you make a post of a question do state this model number and straight away the outboard guru's know
exactly what they are talking about.

this was and still is a very popular engine, so many spares on the secondhand market can still be found easy and cheap ish.
fleabay gets tons of stuff on there for these engines, mostly in the 50hp version.
so your gonna be up and running good in no time now.

please take plenty of pics before you take anything off the engine if its new to you, sometimes just a simple screw or spring
can leave you stumped, but then simply look back at your pics and it all becomes very clear.
