It's been awhile since I've made a post but I'm thinking that is a good thing since until recently my "76 35 hp e-rude has been running great.
Well last weekend my bro n I put the boat in to go do some salmon fishing here in god's country, Oregon. Anyhoo, launched the boat, turned the key and nothing but the motor turning over, would'nt start.

Took the plugs out, looked fine. Could tell they were getting gas. Decided to turn it over w/o plugs for a few seconds. By that time bro has returned from parking the truck. He say's stop! Say's spark is coming from the coil to the plug wire! Hmmmmm Put some tape around it, put the plugs in and, after a few cranks it starts. Is it normal for the plug wires to "spark" w/o being connected to the plugs? Do I need new coils? Thanks for any pointers, Dean
