Hey ya'll !

Am I gonna be ok trollin with a 70's 9.5 hp on my 14 Jon? I thought I saw somewhere that it isnt really made for trolling. I just want to know if I should sell it and get a 4 or something.
The 9.5 has killer low idle and seems like it may do the job. I have less than $100 invested in it and I know I can sell it and have plenty of money to get the " right motor".
Would appreciate input to this.

Sure why not its actually a fisherman model...who trolls more then fisherman??
Use good oil at 50:1 and be sure motor is running too temperature.
And try to avoid ethanol enhanced gas(at all costs)

Of course you can troll with it. Unless your question concerns the boat speed at engine idle. Because it has a bigger propeller than something like a 3hp, it naturally will be moving the boat at a higher speed than a smaller motor at the same engine speed. So, if you are looking for barely moving speeds, a smaller motor will do better. Otherwise, take your pole and go fishing.

It's a great trolling motor. What I like best (I have a 73-9.5 Evinrude) is the speed adjuster at the hing of the throttle. You can really dial in the speed your looking for with it. I normally troll between 1.6 and 3 MPH. One thing I recommend is after a days trolling don't just shut it off. Take it for a five minute run at full throttle and it will clean the plugs and exhaust of crude. That's what I do and it keeps on ticking. Best of luck. Rick.

Ok, now Im excited... Im headin out tomorrow.
Thanks for reminder to blow out motor.. I usually do it several times during the day, as Im an old dirt biker..lol Brrriing .....brrrrring
Good point about the ethanol fuel, most of the " bargain stuff" has plenty of ethanol in it as well as some "branded" gas..
California gas is junk anyway. Ahh I remember the pink high octane leaded days, I can remember the smell and how fast it evaporated.. Good stuff. Oh and about .35 for 104 octane, yeah I aint young, but not old either..

Thanks so much, this forum does rock !
