Hi My name is chris.. omc cobra wont go into gear

Im working on a 1988 4.3 liter omc cobra setup... everything looked to be in good condition untill after i started the boat and it wouldnt go into gear. i pulled the outdrive off the fluids look ok and the gears are fine the cable is good but the shift rod thing wont move up or down...so i pulled the prop bearings and one of the gears that would come out trying to get in there where the shifter is jammed and now im stuck is there an easier way? what do you think the prolem is?

Well, now the problem is that you took something apart that you may not be able to properly put back together!

Once you disturb the bearings the preloads may have to be checked and reset......I'm not a Cobra expert by any means but I wouldn't take one apart unless I had the complete OEM service manual and the specialized tools to put it back together. (maybe you do.....)

If the shift shaft wouldn't move, it could be something in the "dogs". But now, I think you may have bigger problems.
