hi-speed miss

Just got in after spending most of the day *not* catching fish in the rain, had an interesting situation with my '79 70, involving a high-speed miss which consistently begins 25 seconds after going to WOT. She'll cruise all day at 75-80%, but firewall the throttle and count to 25, it starts to miss. Back off to cruising speed, problem disappears.

Fresh fuel incl 1oz seafoam per gallon, fuel line held pressure all day, pumping bulb doesn't help, either tank (both portable and clean, vents open) same result. Starts great cold or warm, idles & accelerates, compression 120/120/125 unchanged in four years. Ruled out fuel obstruction from tank to engine fitting. Fuel lines under hood in good shape.

Recent maintenance: new spark plugs (scheduled), carb kits incl float valves & seats. Today is the first chance I've had to run full throttle since rebuilding the carbs.

Tomorrow I can check the float adjustment which is my first inclination, but it'll still be two weeks before I can lake test it. What else had I ought to check? This isn't a symptom of an ignition component on the verge of failure is it?

Thanks.

Re: hi-speed miss

It floats higher when upside down so that bowl had less capacity than the others...I figure the fuel pump could keep up with the demand at less than WOT. Hope that's all it was. I didn't even notice at first, till I had 'em all put back together & decided to test 'em with compressed air (for me that means blowing through the fuel inlet)...#1 was way more restrictive than the others.

two-stroke fuel mix is *definately* an "acquired taste"...............
