high idle

i have a 1989 johnson 150 2 stroke i rebuilt the carbs and it is runing great but idles around 1000 rpm i have backed out all adjustments and made sure throtle plates are fully closed does anyone have any other ideas????

Make sure the roller is not touching the cam follower. Then loosen the screws on the carbs that adjust the linkage rods (carb to carb). Unhook the throttle cable and manually hold the throttle arm back. The adjustment screw in the arm should only be screwed in about 1/2 way.

Still high?

Is this idling on the muffs? If so, then 1,000 rpm's sounds about right becuase there is no back pressure on the exhaust, however, once the motor is surrounded by water on the lake then it should idle down to about 800 rpms which isn't bad at all. Let us know...Bob
