High pitched noise coming from console..

I have a Crestliner Angler 16 with a side console and
a 40 HP Johnson Engine. This is my second season having it and last time out a very loud, high-pitch scream started coming from under the console in a random pattern. Sometimes it's on and stays on for minutes and then it will occassionally stop.

Any ideas why this is happening? Everything is getting power and the motor seems to be running fine.

It is a little device much like a car door alarm located just under the fusebox.

I figure it has something to do with the starter since it chirps just before I turn over the outboard.

Sounds like it may be the ignition warning. On my FIL's boat, if you leave the ignition turned to on without the motor running, a sounder comes on so you don't run down your batteries.

Sounds like an engine alarm of some sort. I would get it checked out right away by a mechanic.

Amir

RichP1269
I think you nailed it. the key was staying half way between it's normal running position and the turn over position. Normally you get a little chirp as your turning it over but it was sticking and causing the chirp to become a long obnoxious squeal!

Thanks to all of you for your suggessions.
