High RPM, little or no acceleration

My 1996 Volvo Penta is losing acceleration when I attempt to throttle up. What could be the cause of this?

Throttle up from what, Idle, already on plane?
Does it hesitate, then go, or does it die?
What engine, 2 or 4bbl?
How long have you owned it?
How long has it been doing this?
Any changes made to the engine?

From the title…I’d guess the prop(s) hub is away…or your outdrive has water in the oil or the wrong oil…and cone clutch is slipping.
