High-Temp Buzzer Operation

I don't believe my '73 Baja w/'87 88hp has been equipped with a high-temp warning buzzer.(No gauges either.)I traced the tan wires from each head, and found an extra one on the left side with a rubber end on it. Each of the three wires tests as "hot" when the switch is on.(I did not test with motor running.) I was hesitant to intentionally ground a hot wire to test operation. Will I have to purchase a buzzer and add it? Thanks in advance.

Marc

Unplug those tan wires at the bullet connectors. Turn the key to ON and ground out the wire coming from the control to the engine block. You should get the warning horn on both leads. No harm in checking it this way. This is how it's done. Also, look on the side of your control box. You should see a quarter size black looking circle where the horn would be.

Thanks Rick. I assume that the sensors close the circuit when a certain temp is reached. (Bi-metal switch) At what temp should that happen? Can the switches themselves be tested?

Why would the wires be hot? Is this the self-test mechanism? Any input guys?
