High Voltage Reading

I have a 470R mercruiser 1985 4 cyli nder. It has a Stator instead of an alternator. I have been getting high voltage readings while running. It comes and goes back to normal sporatically. I would like help in diagnosis of the problem and some solution (alternative) to this system. All parts I have researched are $$$$. Thanks for any help.<br /><br />Dave

the aftermarket kits that use a standard marine alt are the way to go there are many on the net and ebay<br /><br />your voltage regulator alone is going to cost more than an upgrade kit<br /><br /><br />tommays

the manual says it is normal to see voltages all the way up to 18v. but checkout breezeworks . net for their $200 alt conversion when anything in that system goes
