Higher than normal oil pressure

I have a 2001 trophy walk around 2052 with a 4.3l. I had some major issues so I bought a short block. I got a new oil pump, oil pressure sender, and pressure switch. With the original motor my oil pressure always stayed at 40psi idle or wot. After installing new motor and starting it up my oil pressure is reading 40psi at idle but when throttling up it goes up. I'm on the trailer and on muffs and only get it up to 3000 rpm and the oil pressure is reading 60-70 psi. Question, is this normal? Was the odd sender not working correctly or is the new one bad? I used cheap oil and a cheap filter could that be the issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Remanned short block? it's going to have smaller clearances than your old tired engine. Yes, it'll have higher oil pressure.

Yes it's a Reman. Should I be worried about bearings installed wrong? Or a bad pump or parts? Its been almost two months since I just dont want to mess anything up. I've spent to much time and money

High(ish) oil pressure is almost never an issue. If you have doubts, call the engine supplier.

How cheap and weight of oil? Every motor that I have owned over 55 years had fluctuating oil pressure, depending on RPMs. WOT provided much higher oil pressures than motors at idle. And, after motors warmed up, pressures dropped significantly. I suspect that your old switches/gauges were off somewhat. Many mfgs make kits to attach manual pressure gauges to blocks that work on actual pressure and not wires and ohms. If you are worried, attached one. 30-40 at idle after warmed up to operating temperatures has always been appealing to me. My wife owns a Duramax Z71 diesel and its pressures drop significantly after it reaches operating temperatures. So does my Chevy 4x4 350 v8... What does manual specify concerning pressure and oil weights???? Where I fish, the water is always in the high 80s.

Even my original 32 year old short block reads 40 at idle and 55-60 at speed, so that is not concerning...

Oil pressure senders in GM's fail over time, always have. My 96 truck with over 300k will drop to zero in the middle of summer with the AC on (today will be 95 with a 107 heat index I believe they said as an example.) But the oil pressure is fine. My brother's failed on his 07, my best friend's failed on his 94, it's just what they do. New senders fix the problem and read more accurately.

I used car quest 10w40 and oil filter was suposed to be a cross match to the quicksilver. It was smaller than the one I pulled off. I'm going to get a mechanical gauge from the auto parts store and see what it says. Thanks for all of the help.

your oil should be 15W40 or 25W40

your oil pressure is fine.

go boating, and in 50 hours or less, change oil to the good stuff.
