I hit bottom now the prop doesn't turn when in gear. I think its the hub that bolts on to the flywheel with 3 bolts. Can I just drill a hole through this hub and pin the splines?

If the flywheel is spinning freely from the cam then you probably broke the flywheel key, a small piece of metal that keeps it lined up. If this is the porblem your timing would also be way off though. If thats whats wrong just pull the flywheel and replace the key. Not sure how that would relate to the prop not spinning though.

Sorry mean but you aren't making much sense. Does the engine run? In which case you've got a gearbox or spun prop problem. If the centre prop nut turns but the prop doesn't then you've got a realy badly spun hub(unlikely though). If not then it's a gearbox problem. Why do you think it's the flywheel?

lol sorry guys. Its a 93 5.7L mercruiser. The hub that the splines are inside of I think is what broke, the engine runs fine, its just when I put it in gear is revs without actually turning over the prop

I had this exact problem... hit a submerged log and broke the seal on the I/O... a year later the gears in the lower unit shreaded... about 2 years after that the main shaft out of the engine to the lower unit blew out and wedge against the casing and cracking it... thought I seized the engine. After finding a GOOD mechanic... he said any good shop should check all the gears anytime the lower unit is hit. Any nick in a gear will eventually cause a failure. Why I say this is because if this was done at the time it happened it would of been covered under my insurance claim and now it came out of my pocket! Good luck
