Can a larger outboard that hit a rock and damaged the prop and prop shaft make the prop come while limping back in to shore? There was a bit of vibration and I was wondering if that is what caused it. The prop does not have a locking key pin.

Ayuh,... Some Vibrations will make my ole lady squirm quite abit,... I donno about Come though...:D :D

If the boat is in Forward, it's pushing the prop Onto the shaft...
But,..
It could have slid off when the throttle was pulled back...

Not real sure what you are asking. Looking at the title I am assuming that you lost the prop. Yes hitting a Rock can do that. It can shear the pin or the vibration can loosen the nut. Smiling. some peoples "limping" is different than others. After hitting the rock did you look at the prop?

yes, it was damaged quite a bit. 2 of the 3 blade tips were bent 90 degrees at the tip about .75 inches worth. I did not notice the shaft was bent til I got back. I did not run the enging ove about 2000 rpms coming back in buit there was vibration until the prop came off.

There are only two ways to lose a prop. 1) Prop nut comes off and the prop slides off when you cut the throttle, or 2) if the prop shaft breaks in which case part of the shaft snaps off taking the prop with it.

Without going outside to look at my prop, can you 'spin' the prop enough to lose it, and have the prop hub still in place on the shaft?

Just wondering....

He drove the boat back to the dock and lost the prop as he chopped the throttle. If the hub was spun that bad it would not push the boat at 2000 rpm.
