Small mine perhaps? But seriously, I don't know what it was. The boat jumped up a bit with a bang and then I had no forward movement. Put the drive up to inspect and found most of the lower unit missing in action.

I'm sure water dribbled into the upper unit but I didn't run it after the strike. I want to clear the moisture out of the upper so I can put my spare lower unit on and get back to boating.

Any ideas how to flush out the upper unit without using expensive gear oil to do it?

Oh come on now. A little bondo, clothe and some handy work and she'll be as good as new....

I don't guess there is any thing left but to replace everything now... That must have been a pretty good jolt!

Agree with Bondo, and why not just replace the drive with an SEI

And if its under the 3 year warranty , its cover`d

It's out of warranty, but I have the parts to fix it.

Do you guys think I can take the top cover off the upper unit and pour some ATF down there and let it drain out the bottom to get the inside cleaned up?

I would install the new lower, add the proper gear lube and either run it on muffs for a while or take it out for a short run, then drain and refill with new oil.
